Gospel Reflection: “Peace Be With You”
Gospel Reading: Luke 24: 35 - 48
Reflecting on this weekend’s Gospel, I’m drawn into the intimacy of the moment when Jesus appears to His disciples, amidst their confusion and fear. The phrase “Peace be with you” resonates deeply, feeling like a gentle but powerful reminder that, during life’s storms, Jesus offers peace that transcends understanding.
Imagine the disciples’ astonishment and joy, mixed with disbelief, as Jesus stands before them. His invitation to touch His wounds and His act of eating with them—how profound that must have been! Jesus shows us in this Gospel how our faith is not just a set of beliefs but something you can touch and feel, something as real as a shared meal with friends and family.
The part where Jesus opens their minds to understand the Scriptures hits close to home. It’s a vivid reminder of the countless times I’ve struggled to understand the depth of God’s word and how, in moments of clarity, it feels like a veil is lifted, connecting dots between God’s promises and how they apply to my own life.
Just as the disciples were tasked to preach repentance and forgiveness, I feel called to share this transformative love and peace I’ve found in Jesus. It’s a daunting mission, yet, knowing that it’s not just a historical mandate but a present-day calling fills me with a sense of purpose.
This weekend’s Gospel reading encapsulates the journey we all take from doubt to faith, from fear to peace, and from confusion to mission. It reminds us that Jesus’ resurrection is not just an event to celebrate but a reality to live out. The passage calls every one of us to witness, to share the profound peace and joy of knowing Christ, and to actively participate in the unfolding story of God’s love for the world.
God bless!
