Baptism

Baptisms at Holy Family Church

Baptism is the primary sacrament in the life of the Church. At baptism, parents along with Godparents, present their child(ren) to God because it is God who gives the child(ren) life, brings the child(ren) into His family, and sets them on a path of faith from the very beginning. Baptism is the beginning of a lifelong relationship with God. The gift of faith, given at baptism, is one of the greatest gifts given to all of God’s children.

Requirements:

• Parents should contact the Parish Office at least a month in advance of scheduling a baptism.

• One parent must be Catholic

• One Godparent must be Catholic, 16 years of age and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation

• Biographical information will be needed about the child, parents, and Godparents.

• A record of baptism is kept on file at the Parish Office and a copy will be given to the family. Baptismal certificates are available upon request from the Parish Office and are needed for other sacraments, namely, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation, and Marriage.

Baptisms are the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month, unless there is a specific request for another time and a priest or deacon is available. Oftentimes, there are many children baptized at one ceremony. If there is a need for a private, baptism, that should be coordinated with the Parish Office.

Baptisms are announced in our parish bulletin each month, unless a family asks not to have the information publicized.
