Online Giving

Dear Holy Family Parishioners and Friends,

Good evening! I hope this email finds you well and in good spirits. You have been in my thoughts and prayers. I miss seeing all of you, but you are close to my heart in prayer!

I am happy to share with you that beginning this weekend, the Solemnity of Pentecost, we will have our parking lot Masses. Due to all that is involved, we will have a different schedule than our normal schedule. The new Mass schedule for this weekend is as follows...

There will be a live stream Mass at 9 AM inside the church, but that Mass will be closed to the public.

I would strongly recommend that if you are of a vulnerable age and feel uncomfortable, please stick with the live stream. If you feel like you don't want to try the parking lot Mass, stick with the live stream. In addition, if you are sick or have been sick recently or you are experiencing any flu like symptoms, please do not attend. In doing so, you are putting yourself, others, and me and the deacons at risk. If one of us gets sick, we will shut down again. So please be understanding of this reality.

Friends, please understand that we can only allow 70 cars in our parking lot. Even though our lots hold more we can only have 50% capacity in our parking lots. So, this limits us to 70 cars.

How will the parking lot Mass work? You can come to Holy Family at the appointed times (Saturday at 4 PM or Sunday at 7:30 AM and 11 AM) and our parking lot attendants will guide you to where you need to park. We will be utilizing all of our lots to the best of our ability. I would ask that you do not carpool. Obviously, you can come as a family in one car. If you think you can fit several of your neighbors into your car to maximize the number of people, just know that it violates the CDC guidelines. Again, we do not want to pass on anything to anyone else. Once you are parked, you will have to put your windows down a bit so you can hear the sound system. We do not have an FM transmitter, so you will not be able to tune in on your radio. Trust me, our portable sound system is sufficient enough that my mother will be able to hear me in Fulton. You have to stay in your car. You can only get out of your car for Communion. If you get out for any reason we are obligated to stop the Mass. Since we will be utilizing every other parking space, when the priest receives Communion, everyone in the car should put on their mask. You have to stay in your car until the priest or deacon approaches and then you get out and go to the driver's side to receive Holy Communion. To receive communion, receive the Lord in your hand, step six feet to the side, pull your mask down and receive. After receiving, please get back in the car immediately. I am strongly recommending that you receive in the hand, if you receive on the tongue, we are required to stop, use hand sanitizer, wait for it to dry, and then resume with Communion. You cannot receive Communion with gloves on - they have to be removed. Once you return to your car, please wait for the final blessing and dismissal and our parking lot attendants will direct you as to how to leave. I ask for your patience and support in leaving the lot. We want to make sure there are no bumps, scrapes, etc. By the way, the Mass will be much shorter - maybe 30-35 minutes. The priests/deacons will not be available before or after Mass. We have to take precautions as well and all of our vestments need to be sanitized. I know this is a lot to take in, but I will give reminders before and during those Masses.

If you are coming to one of the parking lot Masses, again be mindful that we can only accomodate 70 cars. You may come and be turned away. I hope that doesn't happen, but if it does, I just beg for your patience and kindness as I am trying to do everything I can to ensure that we have access to the Holy Mass. After talking with our parish leadership, there will not be a registration ahead of time or a lottery at this time. We just cannot find a way to do this effectively that takes into consideration that online registrations cannot be completed by all. We are examining ways to accomplish this in the future when church reopens. However, we will get your name and number when you enter the parking lot. Again, if you cannot make it in the lot there is always the live stream Mass at 9 AM that you can view from home. Remember, the Bishop has dispensed all of us from the obligation of attending Mass for the foreseeable future.

The hope is that in the near future we will be able to have 25% of our seating capacity in the church, when that happens we will return to Masses in the church. Even if that were to happen by this weekend, we are still going with the parking lot Masses. I think we can say, "this is the new normal." We have to be open and flexible and I cannot thank you enough because you have been so gracious and supportive throughout this time of pause.

Lastly, this Saturday, May 30 at 9 AM there will be a training session at church for those who are willing to serve as parking lot attendants. Please bring your mask for this session.

Thank you all so much for your goodness throughout this process. The most important thing is the safety and well being of all. I beg for your patience and understanding and I apologize in advance because I know this is not easy and I know some may not like or agree with all of this. Just know it is not easy for me, the deacons, and our seminarians. I am grateful to take this first step in getting us back into God's house and I am looking forward to taking this step with you in person at one of our parking lot Masses or by way of our live stream.

Know of my love, prayers, and support. I pray that our Blessed Lord gives you a good night's sleep and that Mary keeps you close to her heart in prayer!
